Ask The Author: Eleanor Bennett

From February, “Ancient Steps,” these photographs from Eleanor Bennett.

1. What got you into photography? Who are your influences?

I started taking photos four years ago for a project in which you had to capture the biodiversity in your neighbourhood.
I am heavily influenced by Rankin, Alexander Rodchenko, Cindy Sherman and Joel Sartore.

2. How did you get the photos to appear the way they do? What tools did you use?

Windows photo gallery and irfanview.

3. What other mediums do you work in?

Mixed media and I used to paint and design.

4. What part of yourself are you the most afraid of accessing in the act of creating art?

The part of myself that struggles to figure out with others seem to enjoy creating harm and hurting others.
Often with things I don’t understand I like to use art to create a better grasp on what feels wrong.

5. What questions are you trying to answer when creating?

Mainly questions on the environment and mental illness.

I love nature and urban so I often try to capture a contrast between the two. I’m very interested in how the mind works.

6. Who would you like to photograph?

Damon Albarn, Paul McCartney, Marina and the Diamonds, Lady Gaga, mainly musicians I admire but I would like to photograph many many more.
