Fangirl Speaks

I’m a total fangirl for Narrative Magazine. The writing is always interesting and really quite good. For example, there are lines like this from Reese Kwon’s Super Hero: “Her abdication made for a good excuse, though. Hooking up with one attractive boy or another, she would sit up when the boy would start to undo the buttons on her jeans and she would say, ‘Oh, I’m so sorry, but I can’t, I was raised as a Catholic and I still have some of that stupid guilt.'”

Check out the writers they’ve termed Best New Writers and the other wonderful writing they share.

I am also a Broadway fangirl so I have to give a shout out to [title of show], an original musical, something of a rarity in the age of Jukebox musicals and musical movie renditions, not that there’s anything wrong with that.   [title of show] is witty and funny and emotional and is the kind of show that only comes around once in a Great White Way while. One song, in particular, Die Vampire Die is all about how we should overcome our demons and self-doubt to create beautiful music or amazing writing or whatever it is we strive to create. Whenever I’m writing, I think of that song.

Sadly, [title of show] is scheduled to close in 8 shows. Fall is tough on Broadway. The cast, however, is scrappy and they are enthusiastically campaigning to save their show. If you’re in or near NYC, buy a ticket, or tell your nine favorite people about one of my favorite things.
